Repairing a data file
Previous  Top  Next

Foreword
Prospect Tracking manages one or several data files.
It can occur that one of these have been damages after a brutal interruption during the execution and this for whatever reason could be (sector breakdown, small electricity cut,….).

If a file has been particularly active (data import, creation and deletion of records), it finds itself more or less fragmented in mid term.
It is therefore necessary to give time to other of these maintenance operations of the data file.

Principally there are 2 repair methods to be used:
·Recuperation by analysing the record labels when you really cannot access the data files from Prospect Tracking.
·Compaction of the regular maintenance operation in order to prevent a deterioration of the database and therefore a drop in performance.

Important note on the exploitation in client/server mode
In the context of a client/server use of Prospect Tracking the manipulations described below should be done from the server and not from the clients station.

D - Common procedures for recuperation or compaction.
·Prospect Tracking proposes that after the registration of a new file base, (this file will be a copy of the old one), all the information that has been verified, repaired or compacted, depending on your initial choice.
Place yourself in the index (Prospect Tracking Data) in order to register the new file with one or other existing data files.
After validating with the 'register' button, the repair is done and lasts more or less for a long time depending on the size of your data files.

·Once the repairs are done, exit 4D Util (Menu 'file' command 'exit), and then with the help of Windows Explorer place yourself in the index \Prospect Tracking\Data.
- Rename your old file Prospect Tracking.4DD to OLD.4DD.
- Rename your new file Prospect Tracking _2.4DD to Prospect Tracking.4DD.

The repairs are done, you can use Prospect Tracking again.

It is important to note that once your start up, you will be asked where the data files are situated. You must specify c:\Program Files\Prospect Tracking\Data.

To follow the procedure, go to the chapter "file data".
